CSGD News

We will be at The Northern California Home and Landscape Expo Jan. 23 - 25, 2009.  Please visit their site at HomeandLandscapeExpo.com

A short-term career school in landscape design.

The School is perfect for those seeking a new career or continuing education in Residential Garden Design; providing the skills and knowledge necessary for individuals to become creative and professional landscape designers.  The CSGD has produced some of the most creative garden designers in practice today.  Garden Design embraces a wide range of subjects, issues and ideas, which are explored during the course.  Robert Littlepage, Founder and primary lecturer, is a dynamic, enthusiastic instructor and an experienced landscape designer.  Class size is small so that each student receives the personal attention and instruction necessary to assure success.

About the Program:
In the 4-week Beginning Design Program, students learn drafting, rendering, how to prepare plans, survey a site, and basic design principles.  Students work with a real client, on a real design project.  In the Advanced Program, more complex aspects of landscape design are introduced, such as elevation changes, perspectives, planting design, marketing and more.  .

The Program is perfect for working people or those looking for a career change.  Students need not have any prior design or drafting experience.  If you are already a garden designer or are a landscape contractor who would like to offer design, these short courses make it possible for you to improve your skills and present your ideas with confidence.

Their Beginning 4-Week Program starts February 23, 2009, and is located in Newcastle, California.

We are pleased to announce that the CSGD and the Flower Farm Inn, a lovely bed-and-breakfast Inn located only a few miles from Cold Spring Ranch, have set up a special accommodation rate just for students attending the School. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to reside in a historic Victorian home set in it's own beautiful grounds which includes established flowers and trees, a koi pond, vegetable garden and a gorgeous plant nursery right next door. A stay at the Inn includes a full breakfast served in their charming dining room, as well as use of a parlour and game room all decorated in Victorian antiques. Two rooms have been set aside for students - the Forget-me-not Room, and the Wild Poppy Room (see pictures on this page). Both are located upstairs.

The normal rate to stay at the Flower Farm Inn is $150 a night, but for students of the CSGD, the rate is $70 a night, comparable to the rates offered at our local economy motels. And a delicious home-cooked breakfast is included! Students also have the opportunity to explore the grounds and study the plantings, as well as familiarize themselves with all the plants in the Flower Farm Nursery right next door. The Inn is located in Loomis, just a few miles away.

To guarantee one of the rooms will be available to you, it is necessary to contact the Inn well in advance of the start of classes. Contact information is included here, and you can also find it on our Accommodations page. You can also click on the link to the Flower Farm Inn, to see more photos and read about the Inn.
